Marinel Hartogensis died peacefully on December 29, 2016. Marinel was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1930. She graduated from high school in Kansas City. She gave birth to three children and worked several jobs as an editor and reporter in New Jersey. She then moved to New Hampshire, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music and her master’s of education degree in counseling. She eventually moved to New Mexico and was a school guidance counselor with Albuquerque Public Schools until she retired. Marinel was involved in many activities, including the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Unitarian Universalist Church, bridge groups, theater, opera and the visual arts. She painted furniture and beautiful watercolors and was in several art shows and fairs in the local area. For many years, Marinel painted furniture for the Rio Rancho Public School fundraiser “Seats and Eats.”
Marinel is survived by her daughter, Karen Trammell, of Albuquerque; her sons, George Hartogensis and wife Nancy, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and James Hartogensis and wife Janet, of Albuquerque; her sister, Winilou Odfjell of Bergen, Norway; her grandchildren, Chris Hunt and his wife Sarah, Tyler Hunt, Jake Hartogensis, Nick Hartogensis and his wife Stephanie, Stephen Hartogensis and Jeffrey Hartogensis; her great-granddaughter, Samantha, as well as many, many friends.
