Marilyn Versteegh, the daughter of Russell D. and Lauraine (Olson) Adams, was born September 26, 1944. She grew up in the Newton area and graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1962.

Marilyn worked as a bridal consultant and salesperson at Nollen Drug, and later at VanDenBerg’s in Pella and the Midtown Cafe. She was a registered bridal consultant. Marilyn was a member of many collectible clubs and attended many Gift Shop Buyer’s Market events. She was active with the Class of 1962’s reunions. Marilyn was known for her smile and knowledge of many clients and their favorite collectibles and china patterns.

Marilyn died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton. She was 64. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to honor Marilyn’s memory include her son, Jeff “Burph” (Desiree Briese) Versteegh of Newton; daughter Lori (Craig) Samson of Newton; her two grandchildren, Matt and Kristin Samson; sister, Diane (George Schrauder) Shipley of Beltsville, MD; her niece, Amy Shipley of Rancho Santa Margherita, CA; and special friend, Gary F. Smith of Newton, and his children – Dave (Kim) Smith, Dan Smith, Cindy (Scott) Dittmer, and Amy (Chad) Ray.
