Marilyn R. (McKay) Carlson Townsend, 74, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 and will be deeply missed by her family. Marilyn was born on October 2, 1941 in Hartford daughter of the late George D. and Gertrude (Bensche) McKay. She was predeceased by her loving husband Wayne “Bud” Carlson at the young age of 27. She was a 1962 graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a Registered Nurse at Hartford Hospital. After raising her children she returned to the workforce caring for the residents of Crestfield/Fenwood Rehabilitation Center in Manchester for over 25 years until her retirement in 2006. Marilyn was a sweet, quiet and caring person who also had a love for animals and took in and nurtured many strays over the years.
