Marilyn Jean (Hughes) Johnson

 United States

  • Date Of Birth: January 29, 1930
  • Date Of Death: October 6, 2014
  • State: Texas

Longtime resident and biggest fan of Dallas, Marilyn Johnson passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at her residential care home on October 6, 2014, at the age of 84. Though Marilyn had slowed down considerably the past few years, during her prime she passionately played bridge, she was an avid poker player, and she won several blue ribbons in baking contests at the State Fair of Texas-quite an accomplishment. Cooking was her passion, and it was always a treat when you were invited over for a home-cooked meal.
Marilyn was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on January 29, 1930. She remained in Beech Grove until she met her husband, Wendell Johnson, whom she married on April 25, 1953. Together they had three children, John, Kim, and Suzanne, and they lived in Minneapolis, St. Louis, Chicago and finally Dallas. Marilyn was devoted to her husband and children, spending her years as a homemaker.
After Wendell passed away in 1994, Marilyn spent much of her time with her family. She traveled with each of her eight grandchildren on a trip of their choice after they graduated from high school, with the provision that they were “good citizens.” Marilyn enjoyed life to the fullest, known for bringing her own Japanese Vodka in peanut butter jars when she was invited over for dinner, as well as partaking in a cigar now and then. On one trip through Yellowstone Park when she thought the driver was going too slow, she didn’t hesitate to say “Let her rip!” She loved to dance, and one of Marilyn’s most charming traits was the ability to laugh at herself, thus making everyone else laugh along with her creating a lifetime of memories. Until her later years, Marilyn was an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church, where she began attending with her family in 1968.
Marilyn is survived by her son John Johnson, his wife Beth and their sons Michael and Steven; her daughter Kim Ramirez, husband Fernando and children Kristina Snyder, grandson-in-law Charlie Snyder, Jeremy Ramirez, granddaughter-in-law Emily Sherwood Ramirez, and Robbie; her daughter Suzanne Snavely and children Caroline, Trey, and Lane; her brothers Jimmy Hughes and Larry Hughes of Indiana; and her beloved cat Chloe.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Johnson, her father Bob Hughes, her mother Irene Hughes, her brother, Bobby Hughes, her sister, Ruth Moore, and her son-in-law, Perry Snavely.
