Marilyn Joan (Meier) Borresen of Glen Ellyn passed away on July 30, 2022.  She was 91 years old. Marilyn was born in Chicago, Illinois to Henry and Dorothy Meier.

Marilyn loved her Irish Setter dogs, throwing parties, reading, playing bridge, traveling, and gardening. Cooking and baking for her family were a Marilyn specialty- whipping up elegant dinners for special occasions with equally scrumptious desserts. Her many talents included sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlework of all kinds, and her favorite hobbies were glass collecting, and almost any kind of board game or puzzle.

But most of all she loved Roy, her soulmate, her husband of 51 years. It was at her first RN office job after graduating from St. Anne’s Nursing School, where she met Roy. Together they built a house, a family, a business and their life together. She was a dedicated registered nurse. In her 45+ years as a nurse she worked in a variety of specialties from office nurse to CCU nurse, touching thousands of lives. Among her favorite memories were her time as a 1960’s American Red Cross Nurse and as a County Health Nurse in the late 1950’s.

Then there was the piano. Marilyn never admitted how beautifully she played the piano. But certain children knew how to quietly sneak under the baby-grand to listen and it was magnificent. Her favorite piece was Debussey’s “Clair de Lune”.

She was a consummate volunteer.

By far, Marilyn’s favorite role was that of Grandmother. She was Mimi to her grandchildren – her greatest delight. Whether baking together, watching them compete in sports, attending their concerts or sitting around a table playing games and telling outrageous stories, Mimi and her grandchildren were all about having fun. Nothing thrilled her more than when all four of them were together with her. When she met Logan, her great-grandchild, well, there were simply no words to express her joy.

Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother, “Mimi”, great-grandmother and friend. She loved us all greatly.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Roy W. Borresen, her brothers, Henry Meier, James Meier, and Robert Meier, and her grandson Matthew O’Brien.
