Marilyn Jean Carr, 83, of Peru, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Heritage Healthcare Center in Mendota.

Carr was born November 7, 1935 in Peru to Samuel and Alma (Gaus) Carr. She was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Special Education from Illinois State University. She taught for several years in Oglesby Schools and then taught for 42 years in Peru Schools.

She also worked as a cashier at the Peru Cinemas for over 50 years. Along with Cheryl DePaepe, she helped to establish Starved Rock Area 16 Special Olympics. After retirement, she was involved with Ron Roth’s Celebrating Life Ministries. She enjoyed casinos, bingo, crafting and traveling. She was very compassionate toward all children.

Survivors include her sister, JoAnn Hundt of Peru; one niece, Deb (Mark) Ahola of Niskayuna, NY; one nephew, Dan (Pat) Kubera of Inverness, two great-nieces, Kristyn (Mike) Karasch and Megan Kubera; one great-nephew, Louis Ahola and one great-great-niece, Annabelle Karasch. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dolores Kubera; one nephew, Buck Kubera and her longtime companion, Gerald Funfsinn.
