Marilyn Herndon Williams was born on June 10, 1940, in Babson Park, Florida, and as a small child lived in Pahokee, Florida. She spent most of her life in Lakeland, Florida before moving to East Palatka. She graduated from Lakeland High School in 1958 and married her partner in life, Harold E. Williams. After a military injury, she also became Harold’s partner’s insight as he began to lose his vision. They were married 53 years when he passed away in 2011. Marilyn passed away September 17, 2021, in St. Augustine, Florida
Marilyn worked as a receptionist at the law firm of Holland and Knight in Lakeland before joining her husband, Harold, and two sons, Guy and George, to work on the family farm. Harold, who was a Primitive Baptist Preacher, traveled to many churches to serve and Marilyn was the driving force spending countless hours and miles behind the wheel and Harold behind the Bible.
Her joy was her family – husband, sons, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and her large church family. Her biggest joy was her only grandchild, Molly Williams. Marilyn had one ever-present constant during all her years and that was the soothing presence of effort to please God by taking care of others in need. Her four-legged companion, a Chorkie called Andy, named for the old and familiar song lyrics, “And he walks with me,” brought added joy.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her older son, Guy Williams, and her beloved husband, Harold Williams. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Leah Keen; father, Loren Herndon; stepfather, Park Keen; and brother, Melvin Lee “Buddy” Herndon.
Marilyn is survived by her younger son, George Williams, daughter-in-law, Lois Ann Williams, and granddaughter, Molly Williams (East Palatka). She is also survived by sisters, Myrna Harrell (Fort Meade), Gwen Black (Lakeland), and brother, Jerry Keen (Lakeland).
