Marietherese Creighton passed away Monday morning in the Marigold Nursing Home at 9:50 a.m. attended by family members and two special friends. She suffered a sudden stroke April 5, 2007 losing her left side, leaving her bedfast.

Her active life in Knoxville and Galesburg, since 1960, included raising four children, offering Spanish lessons to young children, volunteering as a Cub Scout leader and writing a column for The Galesburg Post and Knoxville Journal. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart and Corpus Christi Churches. She loved raising flowers outside, and plants inside, at her home at 1181 Willard St., Galesburg since 1967, and previously at 901 E. Main in Knoxville. She was born in La Barca, Jalisco, near Guadalajara, in Mexico.

Her father was Atty. Jorge Padilla who bravely opposed the oppressive government. She was employed by the National Bank of Mexico as an English speaking teller, where she met Peter Creighton in 1958 of Galesburg. They were married in May 1960 in Guadalajara. Also surviving are John-Peter of Cary, IL; George of Henderson, IL; Margaret Gabarro-Creighton; and Carol, a resident of St. Mary’s Square, both of Galesburg; also a brother Carlos of Redlands CA; and brothers Louis and Francisco of La Barca; sisters Caroline and Lupita of La Barca; and seven grandchildren.Two friends are Dr. Roger and Teresa Burga, who visited and supported Marietherese during her three years in nursing home care.
