Marien Louise Hauser (Johnston)

Marien L. Hauser, 97, passed away on July 7, 2023.

Marien was born in Tionesta, PA on December 19, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Alfred (Al) Hauser and her parents Homer and Elsie Johnston, as well as a sister, four brothers, a half-brother, and a half-sister.

Marien is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Roger) Detzel of Green, sons Dr. William Hauser (Annemarie) of Fairlawn, Martin Hauser (Beth) of Stow and Keith (Karen) Hauser of Richmond, Virginia. She was the loving grandmother of Erik, Sarah, Melinda, Megan, Laurie, Brad, Brandon, Garrett, and Kylie, as well as five great grandchildren, Emma, Ian, Gabby, Lilly, and Everli.

Marien moved with her family to Akron at the beginning of World War II. She served in the Cadet Nursing Corp. for one year. She then worked at the San Hygiene Upholstery   Company were she met her husband Al. Over the years, Marien worked at the Flaherty Potato Chip Company and City Laundry while bringing up her four children.

A member of Zion Lutheran Church and then Tallmadge Lutheran Church, Marien served as a Sunday School/nursery teacher, school cafeteria volunteer, and a Cub scout Den Mother. She was especially proud of being one of the founders of the Wise Owls, the senior citizen group at Tallmadge Lutheran Church.

Because Marien had to leave nurses’ training during World War II to support her mother, her biggest regret was that she didn’t get to complete her education. However, she instilled her love for learning in her children who all obtained advanced degrees (PhD, MBAs, MA). All of her grandchildren have earned at least one college degree.  As part of her faith, Marien also taught her children to respect and provide service to others when needed.  Over the years she volunteered in numerous functions at Zion Lutheran, Tallmadge Lutheran, the Haven of Rest, and the Furnace Street Mission.

The Hauser family sincerely thanks the GreenView Assisted Living Staff and the Compassionate Care Hospice Team for the excellent care and comfort they provided for our mother.
