Marie White Bryant was born February 21, 1918, to Grady and Minnie Lively White. At the young age of 99.5, Marie was welcomed into the precious arms of Jesus on July 30, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. Marie had been praying for the Lord to call her home and wondered why He was still keeping her here on Earth. The oldest of four daughters; Marie was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sisters, Irene Frye, Zelda Harmon and Louise James. In addition, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Bryant, her son, Carl Howard and her grandson, Jeffrey Howard Bryant, as well as, her grandson-in-law, Lee Guthrie, Jr. Granny Ree, as she was affectionately called by everyone, is survived by her beloved daughter, Martha Bryant Carter (Gary); devoted daughter-in-law, Helen Bryant; her loving grandsons, Eric (Diane) and Rusty Bryant; her caring granddaughters, Mary Brooke Woods (Ray), Brandi Elizabeth Guthrie, and Martha Ann Fuller (Jeffrey). Fourteen treasured great grandchildren brought joy to her life. They are Whitney, Haley, Avery, Ethan, Lauren, Ashli, Kelsey, Madison, Morgan, Christopher, Riley, Nathan, Brady, and Lee. In addition, she had one great-great grandchild, Liliann. A special bond was formed with DeAnn Calvert and Dena McKay as they lovingly cared for Granny Ree the past few months. Our family loves you both and thanks you. When Howard saw Marie, she not only won the Miss Tarrant 1939 title but also won the heart of this handsome young man in the audience who boldly declared to his best friend, Hardy Marlin, “I’m going to marry that girl one day.” Granny Ree loved the Lord and called upon Him daily. Although unable to attend, she was a member of Centercrest Baptist Church. Granny Ree, along with her best friend Fay Marlin was a member of the Homemakers Club. She loved Elvis, antiquing, and Alabama football. When anyone visited Granny Ree, her favorite parting expression was “See you later alligator, I love love love you.” WE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU Granny Ree, so “After while crocodile.” Granny Ree you are ONE CLASSY LADY.
