She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter Luanne; beloved sister Margaret DiMarco; sister in-law, Annie Wenger; brother in-laws, Russ, Joseph, and Sam Scibona, and Angelo Crapanzano. A lifelong resident of Freeport, Mary lived a life of service to others. She was a longtime volunteer for the Freeport Catholic Schools and filled various offices with the St. Mary’s Ladies Guild and National Catholic Society of Foresters. For many years, she served as an election judge. Mary graduated from Aquin High School in 1944. Mary was a gentle spirit, as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She had the heart of an artist. She always found time to knit, crochet, and paint even while raising eight children.

Her home is filled with her canvasses, many depicting scenes of Freeport and the surrounding area. Mary loved music and filled her home with song. She frequently played the organ at St. Mary’s. Above all, Mary relished spending time with her family. A special treat for them was her homemade ravioli and cannoli. Around the table, she nurtured in them a love of each other.

Mary had many interests, from sewing to playing Scrabble. She was also a wonderful baker. Mary often described herself as “a jack of all trades and a master of none.” Mary was a light and touchstone for many; our community will be poorer for her passing.
