Marie Carmen Benoit of Maplewood, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born Marie Carmen Dasmy, on June 23, 1927, in La Vallée de Jacmel, Haiti to the late Suzanne Dasmy and Vicaire Ambroise. She was married to Benis Benoit for 49 years and had one son with him named Garry.  She immigrated to the U.S in 1966 and soon after sent for her family, Ben, Garry and stepdaughter Myrtha to join her. Affectionately called Mommy Ben to younger family members and Carmen to her many friends, she resided in Stamford, CT for over 20 years.  One of her proudest achievements was obtaining her driver’s license at 65.  After retiring from Marriott Hotels as a housekeeper she moved to Port Charlotte, FL with her beloved Ben until his death in 2008.  After his death, she came to live with her son in Maplewood, NJ. Carmen was a devout Baptist and a founding member of Eglise Baptiste D’Expression Française de Stamford, then First Eben-Ezer Haitian Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, and for the last 12 years a member of the Eglise Baptiste De La Nouvelle Jerusalem of Irvington, NJ.

Carmen is survived by her son Garry Benoit and his spouse Franckline Casimir-Benoit of Maplewood, stepdaughter, Myrtha Benoit Fabius of Stamford; grandchildren James, Laura, Michael, Christopher, Catherine and great grandchildren Harper and Julian; her godchildren and her dozens cherished nieces, and nephews and her sole surviving sibling, Silvina Ambroise. She is predeceased by her siblings Dalton Dasmy, Franck Dasmy, Vierge Dasmy Charles, Cyus Dasmy, Ritesse Ambroise, Vilanie Ambroise, Valinia Ambroise, Dineant Ambroise, Aliece Ambroise, Rosamene Ambroise, Celestin Ambroise.
