Marie A. Johnson, age 93 of Freeport, formerly of Rock City, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI.

She was born December 24, 1927; the daughter of the late Otto and Edith (Toelke) Grunder. Marie married Clement (Demps) Meinert on December 23, 1944. She later married Elmer Johnson on July 12, 1975; he passed on August 25, 1998.

She worked at Structo Manufacturing Co. in Freeport. Marie attended St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis, IL. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league with her two sisters. Marie was an avid Cubs fan and was able to attend a World Series game. She was a fisherwoman and went on fishing trips to Canada. She also traveled, taking trips to Europe and Alaska. Marie was a very outgoing and social person, known for being a “firecracker” and enjoying the occasional beer. She loved socializing at the Landmark Restaurant. She was also very family oriented and loved spending time with her family. She experienced at lot in her lifetime, a life well lived.

She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Geno) Wilken of Freeport; sons, Gary “Fritz” (Dianne) Meinert of Rock City and Steve (Marsha) Meinert of New Berlin, WI; daughter-in-law, Jane (Jerry Murray) Johnson of Sebring, FL; grandchildren, Vernon (Sue) Kuhlemeier, Dawn (Rick) Miller, Lisa (Pat) Flynn, Eric (Stacy) Meinert, Kayla (Nick) Stratman, Otto (Kathyrn) Meinert, Dan Carroll, Julie ( Partner Dave Piotrowski) Carroll, Todd (Bobbi) Johnson, Scott (Amanda) Bons and  Kim (Chris) Grebner; 23 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren (2 due this year); sisters, Edith Rosenstiel, Bert Keister, Clara Gill, Dorothy Kreger, and Helen (Richard) Schneeberger; brothers, Ben (Carol) Grunder and Chuck (Deborah) Grunder; and sister-in-laws, Linda (Jim) Ditsworth and Betty Metz.

She was preceded in death by her mother & father; husband, Elmer Johnson; son, Gary Johnson; sisters, Judy Strong and Julia Grunder; brother, Otto Grunder, Jr.; mother & father-in-law, Esther & Ivan Johnson; brother-in-laws, Mike Rosenstiel, Bill Keister, Robert Gill, Claude Kreger, Elwood Strong, Donald Johnson, and Glen Metz.
