Maria Sacarakis, 90, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Whitehall Manor, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Steve Sacarakis, with whom she shared over 62 years of marriage. Born in Tegernsee, Germany, Maria was one of 10 children born to Lorenz and Philomena Holzer. She worked throughout the Lehigh Valley for Surefit, the Moravian Bookshop and for Muhlenberg Hospital, but she greatly enjoyed working alongside her husband in their Bethlehem restaurant, Sacks Corner. Maria was an avid animal lover, and she enjoyed going to the casino and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of Church of the Manger in Bethlehem, where she sang in the choir. Survivors: daughters Stephanie Kammetler and her husband Robert, Jr. of Bethlehem Township, June Singer and her husband Dave of Orefield; son George Sacarakis and his wife Marcy of Cary, NC; grandchildren Tina Kesack, Natalie Sacarakis, Nicole McKay and her husband Paul, Keith Sacarakis, Brenden Kammetler; great-grandchildren Andrew and Wyle; sister Johanna Oswald of New Jersey. Maria was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters.
