Maria E. Aponte passed away, with family by her side, on June 23, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Prior to her passing she had been enjoying the sunshine state as she had been living in Sandford, Florida for two years. Prior to that she was a long-time resident of Yonkers, New York.
Maria was born on August 1, 1953 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to Juan Aponte Burgos and Rafaela Torres Melendez. She is survived by her sons Angel Cruz; Hector Rivera and his wife Desiree; her daughter Brenda Cruz; and her long-time companion Luis Rodriguez. She was an amazing mother-a queen who set a loving and caring example to all her children to include her predeceased daughter Myrna and to Jose and Derrick who she accepted as her own. She also was the proud grandmother to Mariangeli, Francheska, Arianna, Luis, Jacob, Xiomara and Joshua, and predeceased Rafael and as well as great-grandmother to Nelson and Liah. She was the second oldest out of nine siblings.
Maria devoted her life to her family, friends and to making the world a better place through her selflessness nature and kindhearted ways. She was full of life and enjoyed dancing, having fun, celebrating holidays, special occasions with her family to include sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and decorating for Christmas. She will be missed; however, her family knows she’ll continue watching over them from heaven.
