Margie Aronson, née Matthews, grew up in Evansville and received her Bachelor’s degree in education and her Master’s in social studies from Indiana State University. She taught elementary grades at many public schools in Indiana, finishing her career at Klondike Middle School. She was an outstanding educator and cared deeply about the well being of her students. She was also a strong advocate for public education and was an active participant in the professional teachers association, speaking out for and supporting her colleagues. Margie grew up with music and enjoyed playing guitar, piano, and singing. She devoted much of her free time to promoting human rights and peace in the world. She served on Quaker peace committees and on the state board of the ACLU, and she worked very actively for the election of candidates to state and federal offices who would uphold these values. Given all this, she still managed to find time for baking (oh my!) and to raise her two children, Amy Truelove (of Chicago) and David Truelove (of Yardley, PA). In addition to her children, she is mourned by her devoted husband, Arthur Aronson, by eleven siblings, and by five grandchildren, as well as by her two step children, Michael Aronson (of Oakland, CA) and Steven Aronson (of Westborough, MA), and their four children. Margie lived her life with fullness and intensity, surrounded by those she loved and who loved her; she is sorely missed. An announcement of a reception to celebrate Margie’s life will follow.
