Margean Palmer has gone on to her next adventure. She passed away in Boise, Idaho on December 14, 2015 from complications of Parkinson’s disease at the age of 86. She was born at home on an island in the middle of the Snake River called LaBelle Island near Rigby Idaho to Rayta and Harold (Doc) Swain on May 18, 1929. She spent her early years on a farm near Roosevelt, Utah where she and her family struggled through the depression and World War II. Margean attended Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1947. She married Delmar Palmer on December 22, 1947. The young couple made their first home on a farm in Utah where they had two daughters. Delmar loved farming but the land they were farming was poor. When an opportunity came to own and operate a saw mill in Wyoming, they took off for the mountains. Margean became the lumber camp cook. The adventures at the mill supplied a lifetime of stories to tell. However by the fall of 1954 their oldest needed to attend school and another daughter was about to be born, so they went to Salt Lake City where Del began working in construction and Margean raised girls. Construction jobs brought them back to Idaho. They eventually ended up in the Treasure Valley.
Margean worked much of her lifetime in retail as well as keeping the books for Del’s businesses. However, she wanted to do something more rewarding when the girls began to leave home, so at age 46 she went to cosmetology school and became a hairdresser. Delmar died July 1, 1981. Later, she and two of her daughters moved to Placerville, Idaho where they could enjoy the mountains.
She is survived by her daughters, Margie Harris (Mark) of Boise, Idaho, Joan Palmer of Placerville, Idaho and Linda Palmer of Placerville, Idaho; her grandchildren, Brock Harris, Ben (Gina) Harris, Holly Harris, Adam Harris and Logan Harris all of Boise, Idaho and her great granddaughters, Bridgette Harris of Caldwell, Idaho and Brooklyn Harris of Middleville, Michigan.
