Margaret Suhl passed away peacefully, on June 16, 2015, at the age of 100. She was born on February 28, 1915, to Grace and Fletcher Sillick, in Boonton, N.J. Her first memory was hearing fireworks heralding the end of WWI. Margaret had an amazing life. After High School in New Jersey, she attended the Traphagen School of Fashion Design in New York City. She worked as a freelance fashion illustrator after graduating. When WWII began, she got a job at Aircraft Radio Corporation, assembling airplane radios for the war effort. During that time, she met many lifelong friends and her first husband, Robert Moore, a commercial photographer. Margaret and Bob were married in 1946, and opened the Denville Camera Shop in 1947. They had their daughter, Peggy, in 1950. Margaret had many hobbies and talents: oil painting, photography, sewing, decorating, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. Bob died suddenly in 1961; Margaret sold the camera shop and worked at Epstein’s Department Store in Morristown. Margaret met Rudy Suhl in 1966, who had two children, Rick and Marty; they married and combined their families in 1967. Rudy and Margaret lived in Millington, Chester, and then Pottersville, N.J., always providing an atmosphere of joy and acceptance in each home they created. Margaret was a dedicated volunteer at Welkind Rehabilitation Hospital in Chester; she managed their Nifty Thrifty Auxiliary Gift Shop. In 1985, Margaret and Rudy moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, to join kids and grandkids already in the Phoenix area. Margaret and Rudy loved Arizona and made many new friends. Margaret worked as a volunteer at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in their Patient Pride program. After Rudy passed away in 1997, Margaret soldiered on and continued to paint, travel, and enjoy life for many years. She has resided since 2007 at Pennington Gardens in Chandler, being well cared for by their loving staff. She has left a legacy of kindness, style, and grace that can’t be duplicated. She is predeceased by dear husbands Bob and Rudy, beloved brothers Halstead and Jack, and many true and dear friends. She leaves children Peg Darnell, Rick Suhl, and Marty Nunziato; their spouses Dave, Peggy, and Danny; grandchildren Adam and Amanda Kenney, Heather and Shawn Tegan, Megan Suhl, David and Felicia Suhl, Jennifer Darnell, Allison and Joe Litcher; and 10 great-grandchildren in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Florida; she also leaves her dear friend and caregiver Gloria “Mickey” Mulligan. Somehow, we too will soldier on without our matriarch.
