Margaret “Peggy” Wharton of Canon City passed away Saturday morning, February 28, 2015 at the age of 102. Peggy was born in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, on November 4, 1912. At an early age she moved with her parents, 2 sisters, and a brother to Colorado, due to her brother’s asthma, and his doctor’s recommendation that they move to a higher and dryer climate. They first moved to the San Luis Valley, and then to Colorado Springs, where Peggy met her husband, John “Buddy” Wharton. They were married December 4, 1940. Peggy gave birth to two sons, Donny and Jack Wharton. Sadly, Donny passed before he was one year old. Jack lives in Canon City with his wife Chris. Peggy is also survived by granddaughters, Deni (Bruce) Kidwell and Christy (Kendall) Kreiling; four great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Peggy and Buddy lived in Colorado Springs, where they enjoyed being retired and doing the things they loved. Both of them were involved in metal detecting and camping. However, due to Buddy’s failing health, they moved to Canon City, so they could be close to their son. Buddy passed away the following year. Peggy lived and thrived in Canon City by herself. Six years ago, Peggy entered Skyline Ridge Nursing Home, where she continued to live a good life. Peggy had several goals in life, being a good wife and mother topped her list and she excelled at both. Next, would have to be making people happy and she also succeeded at that. She will be truly missed by all that knew her.
