Margaret May Polhemus (nee: Gildersleive) of Burlington Township passed away on November 25th under the loving care of the staff of the Masonic Home of NJ, Masonic Hospice, and her family after a lengthy illness at the age of 86. Margaret “Maisie” was born May 6, 1925 in Burlington to Charles and MarthAnn Gildersleive (nee:Lawrence).
She graduated from Wilbur Watts HS in 1944 and worked for the State of NJ Unemployment Office in Burlington. She late worked for Gambles Electronics in Riverside.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband Alstyne D. Polhemus to whom she was married for 64 years. She was a member of the Beverly Maqueda Chapter #276 Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years and a parishioner of St. Barnabas Church of Burlington. Margaret was the loving mother of two children; Eric Polhemus and Wendy Meyer of Burlington.
She will also be missed by her loving son in law Kevin Meyer also of Burlington. She was one of four daughters, two who predeceased her, Orvetta Allinson and Vera Crouthamel both of Burlington. She is survived by her youngest sister Gladys Burnett of N. Hanover. Margaret also had two grandchildren Eric Polhemus and Amy Corson of Burlington. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family, her church, and her yearly trip to Florida to visit friends. She spent time doing puzzles, was an avid reader, and loved her trips to the Jersey shore.
