Margaret Mary Balsley, age 93, formerly of Salem, OH died Thursday November 13, 2014 in Mansfield, OH.. She was born July 6, 1921 in Cleveland, OH to the late Denton and Mary (Urmetz) Votaw. A loving mother, adoring grandmother and devoted wife, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert R. Balsley, whom she married September 14, 1946. She is survived by four daughters, Mary Lynn (Randy) Current of Mt. Vernon, OH, Judith (Richard) Owens of Jeffersonville OH, Barbara Balsley of Mansfield OH, Gayle James of Fredericktown, OH; two brothers, Albert and Arthur Votaw of Salem, OH ; two sisters, Patricia Shasteen of Salem, OH and Kathryn Sanfrey of Warren, OH; and four grandchildren, Justin and Andrew Owens of Jeffersonville, OH, Katlyn James of Fredericktown, OH and Ceridwyn Ely, of Jersey City, NJ. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Allison and Helen Votaw. She was a 1939 graduate of Salem High School and was last employed as a receptionist for Dr. Robert Smith. Margaret was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher of four-year-olds for many years. A member of the Bertie Hanson Circle, she held various offices in both her circle and the Women’s Society. In retirement, she volunteered at the Salem Regional Medical Center and helped children with their reading skills at Buckeye Elementary School. An avid reader, she loved to bake, garden and sew clothing for her children and grandchildren.
