Margaret M. Lee, nee Sherman, 94, of Troy, IL, born January 17, 1923 in Collinsville, IL, passed away Monday, January 9, 2018 at The Fountains/Morningside Assisted Living facility in Troy, IL.
She graduated from Collinsville High School in 1940 and Rubicam Business College of St. Louis in 1942. During her working years, she served as the secretary for the Redmon Insurance Agency in Collinsville and from 1968 – 1983 was the secretary for the Music Department at SIUE. She was a long time member of Frieden’s United Church of Christ. She taught Sunday School as well as being part of many committees and organizations in Troy. One of her passions was volunteering with Ministries Unlimited. She also loved to travel, sing, play bridge and spend time with friends and family. She was a member of the Women’s Guild at Friedens, Madison County Homemakers, American Legion Post 708 Auxiliary, Troy, IL, and Tops. Her last 4 years were spent at The Fountains/Morningside Assisted Living facility in Troy, where she made many friends amongst the residents and staff.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Lee, the former Head Baseball Coach at SIUE and St. Louis University. They were married February 18, 1944. He passed away on November 11, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Hulda, nee Jobusch, Sherman, a brother John W. Sherman and a sister, Elizabeth Cole.
Surviving are her two sons, John R. (Evelyn) Lee of Nicholasville, Ky. and Bill Lee (fiancé Debbie Tribout) of Shiloh, Il. Also surviving, are two grandchildren, Christopher (Marte) Lee of Nicholasville, Ky. and Dr. Jennie (Dr. Tim) Yoost of Huntington, W.V. She was the proud great grandmother of seven children.
