Margaret L. DeGroot, 88, of Virginia, IL died February 13, 2016, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
She was born September 17, 1927 in Ashland, IL, the daughter of James Elroy and Luetta O. Votsmier Scholes. She married Louis M. DeGroot on May 28, 1951 in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death on April 30, 1996.
She is survived by three children, Linda Coats (husband, Estell) of Jacksonville, Joseph “Joe” DeGroot (wife, Betty) of Beardstown, and Russell DeGroot of Virginia; four grandchildren, Melissa DeGroot Espinoza (husband, Rigoberto) of Beardstown, Rebecca DeGroot of Virginia, Michael Coats (wife, Eryka) of Murrayville, and Amy Coats of Philadelphia; several great grandchildren; a sister, Erma Bulva (husband, Lester) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three grandsons, Adam Coats, Brian Coats, and Eric DeGroot; and three brothers, Kenneth, Delbert, and Ernest Scholes; and a sister, Helen Vieira.
A graduate of Virginia High School, Margaret was formerly employed at Rossi’s Restaurant, Virginia Country Club, and Virginia Meat Locker. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Parish.
