Margaret Isabel (Alexander) Dacunha, age101, of Easthampton passed away at her home just shy of her 102nd birthday. She was born on May 11, 1920 in Derby, CT and was the daughter of Ann (Martin) Alexander. Eventually, she moved to Easthampton where she was educated and graduated from Easthampton High School in the class of 1938.
She loved to cook, bake, knit, work in her yard and made numerous hand-made quilts. For many years Peggy knitted thousands of winter hats and mittens for the Indian children of South Dakota. Though out the late 60’s and 70’s she spent time with her family on Cape Cod enjoying summer vacations. Those were some of the happiest times of her life. She was extremely proud and loved her Scottish heritage and always enjoyed watching documentaries about Scotland and the sounds of the Bagpipes. Margaret worked for many years at the Springfield Armory where she met her future husband, Denis Richard Dacunha and they married in 1951. Peggy also worked for many years at the Williston Northampton School in the Alumni office until her retirement.
Peggy leaves and is survived by her loving and devoted family, two sons; Tom Dacunha of Broad Brook,CT and Gary Dacunha of Easthampton, three grandchildren; Ashley Oquendo and her husband Sam of Holyoke, Courtney Fay and her husband Drew of Feeding Hills, Todd Dacunha of Tolland, CT and four beautiful great grandchildren whom she cherished; Caleb Oquendo, Lilianna Oquendo, Evelyn Fay and Noah Fay. She was predeceased by her husband Denis of 65 years on January 2, 2016, a brother, Douglas Alexander and a sister, Jane Alexander.
