Margaret H. Lockwood, 100, passed away, June 9, 2021, following a brief illness. Margaret was born August 10, 1920, to John N. and Martha G. Highland in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Park Avenue Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of June 1938. After graduation she worked as a secretary which included work at Fort Des Moines Army Post, Finance Office US Army, Fort Snelling, Minnesota and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Margaret was united in marriage to Russell A. Lockwood on December 21, 1946. After his retirement from the Army in 1954 at Brooklyn, New York, they returned to Des Moines to live. Russell died in 1975 while they were living in What Cheer, Iowa. Margaret returned to Urbandale, Iowa in late 1976.

While living in Urbandale, she volunteered at the Urbandale Public Library for over 10 years. She then became involved in assisting to upgrade the Aldersgate United Methodist Church library, a task she enjoyed and continued for several years.

Margaret was a member of Chapter GU, P.E.O., Aldersgate United Methodist Church and had been active in United Methodist Women and the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. She served as District President, and in Conference and North Central Jurisdiction positions of the United Methodist Women.

Margaret enjoyed reading, needlepoint, counted cross stitch and gardening. After moving into an apartment, she enjoyed “balcony” gardening. In early retirement years, while living in Urbandale and later West Des Moines, she enjoyed traveling in the States, as well as Africa, Great Britain and the Bavarian Area in Europe.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and a sister. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
