Margaret “Margie” Blankenship, age 83, of Warrenton, Virginia, peacefully passed away on August 8, 2024, surrounded by her family. Margie was a devoted wife of 62 years, a loving mother, adoring mama, and a treasured friend. Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on July 29, 1941, in Red Jacket, West Virginia, Margie graduated from Matewan High School and embarked on a distinguished 35-year career with the US Coast Guard, culminating her service as the Chief of the Personnel Records Division before retiring in 1995. On July 1, 1962, Margie married Willis James Blankenship. Together, they raised two children: Willis James Blankenship Jr. (“JB”) and Angela Elizabeth Blankenship. Balancing the demands of her career and family, Margie gracefully accepted the challenges of a working mother and stresses of a Fairfax County Police Officer’s wife. After retirement, Margie and Willis settled in Warrenton, where she found joy in spoiling her five grandchildren. Mama was always packed and ready to travel any distance to support her grandchildren in all manner of ball games, tournaments, competitions, and graduations. Margie’s faith was an integral part of her life; she was an active member of Battlefield Baptist Church, where her mission work took her to places such as Tanzania, Greece, Romania, and Hungary. In her leisure time, Margie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and ceramics, as well as playing more than a few games of Candy Crush, Marble Blast, and Sudoku while power watching the Hallmark Channel. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be dearly missed by her family and all who had the honor of knowing her. Margie is survived by her children, Willis James Blankenship Jr.(Alissa) and Angela Elizabeth Dost; and her five adored grandchildren; Kayla, Natalie, Skylar, Ty, and Nathan. She was predeceased by her loving husband Willis Blankenship, her brother Pepper, her sister Bobbie, and her parents Louis and Elizabeth.
