Margaret Ann Jordan Hopkins, age 78, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Rome Hospital, after courageously battling cancer.
Born on April 14, 1934, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John B. Jordan and Margaret Krantz Jordan, and a graduate of Marywood College, Scranton. Margaret Ann worked for the Diocese of Scranton until 1960 when she married fellow Scrantonian William R. (“Bill”) Hopkins. Margaret Ann moved with Bill to Rome in the early 1960s where they raised four children and Margaret Ann worked as a substitute teacher. A parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Rome, Margaret Ann taught religious education, served on the Parish council, volunteered with the Christmas bazaar, and was a lector and Eucharistic minister. Margaret Ann enjoyed volunteer work including working bingo at Rome Catholic High, and at the Rome Hospital snack bar as a member of the Twigs. Margaret Ann was an avid ice hockey fan, followed Formula 1 racing, and enjoyed playing bridge with dear friends.
Predeceased by Bill in 2009 and a brother, Francis X. Jordan in 2008, she is survived by her children and their spouses Margaret (Richard) Allen of Huntersville, N.C., William (Terry) Hopkins of Camillus, N.Y., Therese (Richard) Cich of East Aurora, N.Y., and John (Colleen) Hopkins of Cheektowaga, N.Y., grandchildren Veronica Allen, Lillian and Andrew Hopkins, Charles and Timothy Cich, brothers John (Jill) Jordan, James (Ann) Jordan, sisters-in-law Pat Jordan, and Barbara (Robert, deceased) Hopkins, several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
