Margaret Smith, age 95, of Parkway Village, Little Rock, formerly of Lonoke, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014.
She was born May 11, 1918 to the late Edward Lee Adams and Cora Margaret Peacock Adams in Star City, Arkansas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hubert S. Smith, son Glen Morgan Smith, sister, Reba Lee Adams Mitchell, beloved cousin, Dr. William Carrol Adams and nephew William Frank Mitchell.
In 1934 Margaret met Hubert Smith when he was a student at A&M College in Monticello. They were married December 25, 1935 in DeValls Bluff. The couple later moved to Lonoke and raised their family. Hubert founded his company Razorback Sales, from which he retired in 1982. In 1985 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They traveled extensively with friends and family over the years. Margaret volunteered in a host of community services while taking care of her family. The great love of her life was always centered around their church, Lonoke Baptist. She served as a church officer, was on various committees, and was very active in the church outreach programs in the community. Home and Foreign Missions were always at the heart of her work with the church.
She is survived by her son Hubert Lee (Mary Ann) Smith of Maumelle, Arkansas, and daughter-in-law Judy Smith of New Bern, North Carolina; grandsons, David (Heather) Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Craig Smith of Wellington, Florida, Hubert Lee (Veronica) Smith, Jr. of Little Rock, Timothy Smith of Maumelle, and granddaughter Tracey (Jim) Lorentzen of New Bern, North Carolina; nine great-grandchildren; Margaret’s survivors also include her nephew Dr. Harold (Rene’) Mitchell of Pine Bluff, and niece Margaret Ann (Roger) Murchison of Augusta, Georgia.
