Marcie Ruth Gappinger, 60, of Aurora, Colorado, our beautiful and courageous Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend, passed away November 4, 2018, following a battle with cancer. She was born October 24, 1958 in Deadwood, South Dakota to Leo and Sara Ruth Nikont.
Marcie was loved by everyone she met. She had that rare combination of tenacity, drive and purpose, along with a loving, accepting heart and a charming magnetism that drew people to her.
She was also multi-talented. In high school, she followed her Mother and sister when she won the South Dakota title of Jr. Miss. Marcie earned a Masters in Voice from Denver University, which was obvious when she performed as a singer and actress, touching us all with her incredible voice at such venues as the Bonfils Theatre and the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts. She was a choir director, taught private voice lessons and was a favorite to sing at weddings and special events. Marcie earned her CFP (Certified Financial Planner Designation) and worked as a financial planner, alongside her husband for years. She later decided to teach children to sing, earning a teaching degree and getting offered the top job in the area at the Aurora Challenge School.
And yet, with all of these talents and accomplishments, the one thing she probably loved the most was directing her own grandchildren and their classmates when they performed local musicals and programs at school each year.
Truly Marcie was a wonderful, talented woman who will be greatly missed and never replaced. She was one of a kind.
Marcie is survived by her husband, Alan J. Gappinger; son, Miles (wife, Beatrice) Skoog and their children, Bella, Emilia and Francis; step-children, Laurie Traeber and her children, Austin and Makayla; Rebecca (husband, James) Cowart and their son, Vincent; Ryan (wife, Kathryn) Gappinger and their children, Tyson and Kacy. She is also survived by her siblings, Charlotte (husband, Don) and their daughter, Saraya; Cal Nikont; Miles (wife, Christine) Nikont, and their children, Leandra, Kane, Robert and Sara. She was preceded in death by her parents.
