Marcia Kay De Jong was born August 18, 1947, to Arie M. and Grace (Vander Leest) Van Haaften in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Marcia grew up on the family farm in the Sandridge community about six miles north of Pella, where she attended country school through seventh grade. When Sandridge School closed, she attended Webster Jr. High and Pella Community High School. Following high school, she worked for Equitable of Iowa in Des Moines for three years as a typist.
On February 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Myron J. De Jong at her parents’ home in Pella. To this union four daughters were born: Michele Kay, Myra Lynn, Marla Ann and Marjorie Marie. Myron died March 18, 1994.
Throughout the years, Marcia was a farm wife, loving mother, worked for De Jong Greenhouse, Pella Regional Hospital, and was a janitor for Peoria Christian School. Marcia enjoyed travelling and gardening, and loved league bowling with the Original Bowlers.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husbands: Myron J. De Jong and Gary M. Wouterse, her parents Arie M. and Grace Van Haaften, parents-in-law Henry W. and Jeannetta De Jong; brothers: Marvin E. Van Haaften in infancy, and Norman R. Van Haaften.
