DURHAM- Mrs. Marcelle Sloan Newton, 91, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Newton was born January 15, 1928 to the late Thomas and Viola Sloan in Durham, NC. She graduated from Durham High School Class of 1947. Mrs. Newton then started working as a hairdresser at a local hotel. She was an animal lover and loved to travel to the Outer Banks. Mrs. Newton enjoyed cooking and hosting and loved a good book. She enjoyed attending her high school class reunions. Mrs. Newton will be remembered as a loving mother and friend to all.
Mrs. Newton is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George Newton; brothers, T.J. and Billy Sloan; sisters, Hilda Harris, Katherine Darr and Alta Lou Althaus
Mrs. Newton is survived by her son, Daryl Newton; special friends and caregivers, Emily Nyabaya (Charles) and Bianca Young (Kevin) and numerous nieces and nephews.
