Manuela G. Altamirano, 93, of Silver City passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, surrounded by her family.
“Nellie” as she was affectionately known, was born on August 27, 1926 in Gila, NM to Anastacio Gomez and Juanita Martinez. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed music and singing. Nellie loved to watch and listen to the birds that gathered outside her kitchen window, and as she left on her journey to heaven the birds sang one last time outside her window. Nellie loved to cook, especially her green chili and tortillas and had quite the sweet tooth for cakes and 3 Musketeers candy bars. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Her strong faith was one of her most beautiful qualities. Nellie had a great sense of humor and was always laughing and joking around with her family.
Nellie is survived by three sons, Antonio Altamirano Jr. (Belinda) of Arizona, LinoAltamirano (Mary) and Joe Altamirano of Silver City; two daughters, Mary Carreon (Tony) of Bayard and Margie of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio V. Altamirano; son, Ray Altamirano and a grandson, Jacob Altamirano.
