Manuel Nunes, 67, husband of Alice (Coito) Nunes, died on Friday morning at Regional Hospice of Western CT, surrounded by his wife and children. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ricardo (Elizabeth Bacelar) Nunes, a daughter, Tania Nunes (Manuel) Carreras, a sister Fernanda (Horacio) Oliveira, four grandchildren, Geslin, Aidan, Gabriela, and Isabela, 2 nieces, Fatima and Milene and a great-niece and 3 great-nephews.

Manuel was born in Ferreirós Do Dão Portugal, and came to the United States in the late 80’s in pursuit of the American Dream for his children. He was a resident of Danbury, CT for almost three decades where he worked tirelessly in Construction. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club, and later The Portuguese Cultural Center. Manuel was a big soccer fan, and he rooted for Benfica all of his life.  Aside sharing the love for all things Portuguese, he formed life long friendships and spread many smiles and laughs through his community.

Manuel and his wife returned back to Portugal in 2016 where they enjoyed life with travel, and good times with family and friends. In 2020, he fell ill and had lived with his son, daughter-in-law and two of his granddaughters in Scarsdale, NY., where they built a life around helping him in any way they possibly could, from enjoying new experiences together, traveling as much as they could, and doing everything they could to get him the best treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY.

Manuel has always been known as a great man, and will be remembered for being an extremely hard worker, whether it be at work, or projects around his home or garden. He always greeted you with a smile, and sent you off with one as well. He was grateful for every single healthcare providers who he met along the way, who helped aide in his difficult battle with cancer.
