Obit: Malcolm Frederick “Fred” Gates peacefully passed away on April 27th, 2016 at age 92. He was preceded in his passing by his wife, Agnes Gauthier Gates. Fred Gates was born in Nova Scotia on June 15, 1923. He spent his childhood years and attended grade school in Peabody. Fred would also go on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree by attending night school at Northeastern University. One of Fred’s first employment experiences at the age of 16 was working for Dineen Furniture, which was owned and operated by Agnes’ mother and step-father. In 1941, Fred joined the Army Air Corps (before it became known as the United States Air Force). Fred’s American citizenship was actually made official via Mexico while he was stationed in Arizona.
