Magdaleno H (Nano) Leyba Jr., 85, lifetime resident of Silver City, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Gila Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 24, 1925 in Silver City to Maria Del Refugio Hernandez and Magdaleno L Leyba, Sr. Magdaleno served in the US Army during WWII in which he was a POW. He earned good conduct, Prisoner of War and victory medals as well as a combat infantry man badge. He was a cabinet maker by trade and enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making puzzles and watching the New York Yankees. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Manuela “Nelly”, of the home; daughter, Cecilia Garcia (Freddy); grandchildren, Freddy Garcia Jr., Sonia Lucero (Gilbert); great-grandchildren, Henry Garcia, Mark Garcia, Dominic Lucero and Justine Lucero; great-great-grandchildren, Elijah, Josiah, Julianna and Amaya Garcia, Albuquerque; son, David Leyba (Linda), grandchildren, David Leyba, Jr., Jacob Leyba and Gabriel Leyba (EJ); great-children, Josiah and Donovan Leyba, Las Vegas, NV; son, Joaquin Leyba (Sylvia); grandchildren, Peter Leyba, Patrick Leyba (Christina); great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Elijah Leyba, Tucson, AZ; daughter, Julie Leyba Medina; grandchildren, Jason Medina and companion Ashley, April Medina and Andres Medina; great-grandchild, Jason Joseph Medina, Silver City. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters; Rosalio, Martin, Manuel, Jose, Andres, Ramon, Epifania, Juana, Petra and Candida.
