Madeline Veronica (Sylvia) Palmer, of Pawcatuck, passed away on October 1, after a brief illness at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven.
She was the widow of the late George Kessler and Kenneth Palmer.
Mrs. Palmer was born in Stonington, the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Cunha) Sylvia. She was raised in Stonington Village, educated in the Stonington School system and was employed at American Velvet for many years.
She was an active volunteer in many civic and social organizations. She was a Past President of the Pawcatuck Little League; performed secretarial duties for the Stonington Golden Ages retirement club, and was a lifetime membe of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harley P. Chase VFW Post.
Madeline was a splendid cook, devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all in need and great sports fan, dedicated to her beloved Red Sox.
In addition to her late husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, John Sylvia and sisters; Theresa Vevarous and Evangeline Santos.
She is survived by her 5 daughters, Georgia Soloveitzik of Westerly; Suzanne McLoughlin, of Pawcatuck; Roberta Kessler of Hopkinton; Michele Bickford of Stonington; and Cathy Palmer of Stonington; and her 3 sons; George Kessler of Taftville, CT; Mark Palmer of Pawcatuck; and Kevin Palmer, of Stonington. She is also survived by her sister, Caroline Ross of Westerly, 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her surrogate daughter Jessica Roy of Spoffard, NH; and the rest of the Red Sox Nation.
