Madeline Tracy died on September 21, 2012 at her family’s home in Goshen, Connecticut. She passed away peacefully in the company of friends. She was eighty-nine years old.

Born Madeline Mae Shultz on March 11, 1923, she was the daughter of Walter and Glennie Shultz of Angola, New York. She was married to Augustus C. Tracy of New York City from the time of their wedding in 1943 until his death in 1995. She is survived by her brother, Herbert Shultz, of Jensen Beach, Florida, her son, Stephen Tracy of Goshen and her daughter, Susan King of Bristol, Connecticut. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher, Bryan and Jeremy Tracy, Scott Thoman, and Shannon Madore, and by her great grandsons Dylan Thoman and Leo Madore.

Mrs. Tracy was a graduate of Syracuse University. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Seton Hall University and devoted her entire professional career to public education. She taught physical education in North Syracuse, New York, and at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey. During the 1960’s, she was the first female to serve as a school athletic director in the history of New Jersey. She remained an active golfer well into her retirement years, recording a hole-in-one at the age of seventy-six.
