Madeline C. Hecklinski, 82, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 20, 2005, in her home. Madeline was born on August 14, 1922, in Wachtebeke, Belgium to the late Prudant and Camilla (Sey) Schaut. On May 29, 1946, Madeline married Dr. Ernest J. Hecklinski, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1990.
Surviving are her children; a son, Thomas E. (Joyce) Hecklinski of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughters, Diane (Louis) Satenstein of Chappaqua, New York, Jane (John) Dandino of South Bend, Anne (Henry) Hargrove of Spartanburg, South Carolina; 4 grandchildren, six step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren. A brother, Gus Schaut preceded her in death.
Madeline was a charter member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Retirees Club of St. John Parish. She started girls volleyball at St. John Parish and was a Campfire Girls leader for many years. Madeline also worked with her husband in his dental practice.
