Mack David Rakes, 90 of 244 Sinclair Street, Ridgeway died at his home Sunday, June 20, 2010. Born in Carroll County, June 9, 1920 he was the son of the late William E. and Flora Goad Rakes. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three sisters; Della R. Brendle,Lura R. Dove and Lillian R. Kirby; four brothers Cleo , Samuel Lee, James G. and Guy Rakes. Mr. Rakes served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a Master Skipper of a boat for Sea and Rescue in Panama. He was a member of the American Legion Bassett Post, the Hillsville V.F.W. and was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. Mr. Rakes is survived by his wife, Nellie Belton Williams Rakes of the home; a daughter Julie Williams Selby of Frederick, MD; a son Robert Tilton Williams of Ridgeway, VA; a sister Ola Rakes King of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
