Those left to honor Mabel’s memory are her two daughters, Carole (Bill) Soutter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joyce (William “Bill”) Guthrie of Newton; her son, Tom (Jennifer) McConeghey of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Paula (Dan) Sjullie of Des Moines, Lisa Van Scoyk of Polk City, Iowa, Deborah (Brad) Van Soelen of Monroe, Iowa, Jeffery (Kristin) Guthrie of Decatur, Georgia, Eric (Jane) Guthrie of Boulder, Colorado, Kristen Guthrie of Waterloo, Ryan Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, John McConeghey of Columbus, Ohio, and Ryan Colburn of Ames, Iowa; and her thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Sarah Lily (Clouse) Leck; husband, R. Wayne in 1977; six sisters, Nola, Kate, Mamie, Bessie, Tina, and Virginia; and two brothers, Ralph and Roy.
On February 18, 1933 Mabel was united in marriage with R. Wayne McConeghey in rural Mendota, Missouri. They moved to Newton in the early 1940’s.
Mabel was a homemaker and worked ten years for Dunlap Manufacturing, retiring in 1978.
