Mabel E. Hildebrandt, 87, of Freeport, formerly of 1645 S. Highland, most recently of the Provena St. Joseph Center, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born August 11, 1919 in Kent Township she was the daughter of Edward and Catherine (Steffen) Richtemeyer.

She married Arthur Hildebrandt January 24, 1945 in Elizabeth and he died December 3, 1964.She graduated from Stockton High School and attended Brown’s Business College. She worked at Micro Switch Company and then Crum & Forester until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Freeport Church of Christ and Lena Friends’ club.

Mabel enjoyed playing the piano and organ for the area nursing homes. She would say, “The music I play is God’s gift and if I can make someone’s life a little brighter, then I have lived”.

Survived by one son, Harlen (Susan) Hildebrandt of DeKalb, and their three children, Amy (Matthew) Curtis of Sycamore, Daniel Hildebrandt, and Julie Hildebrandt, both of DeKalb, one nephew Rolan Crow and his daughters Yvonne Myers and Tianna Byers and her two sons Eric and Robbie, all of Freeport, and one step-daughter-in-law, Gladys Hildebrandt and her daughters Janice Sobolik and Donna (John) Sherman, all of Wisconsin.She was preceded in death by her brother, Laverne Richtemeyer, her parents, her husband, a sister, Doris Crow, and a step-son, James Hildebrandt.
