Sister M. Beatrice (Dorothy Louise Thomas), CSC, 82, was born in Pueblo, Colorado, to the late J. Albert and Mary R. Sierra Thomas. Sister was one of four children and is survived by her sisters, Jean V. Thomas, MD, and Patricia (Jefford) Cold, NE. She was pre-deceased by her brother. Sister is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews.

Sister attended Catholic schools in Pueblo, CO, and after high school the family moved to Washington, DC, where she attended Dunbarton in Washington. That was where she first met Holy Cross sisters and decided to join them. She entered the Congregation in 1941 and was trained to be a teacher. She taught in elementary schools of the order in Washington, DC, Austin, TX, Alexandria, VA, Columbus, OH, Lancaster, PA, Baltimore MD, New York and Batavia, NY. After 20 years teaching, in 1966, Sister attended the School of Practical Nursing, Columbus OH, graduating in 1968. Sister worked as a nurse at Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus OH, Holy Cross Hospital, San Fernando, CA, St. Mary’s Hospital, Cairo, IL, and Silver Spring Nursing Home, Washington, DC. She retired to St. Angela Hall and remained there until she was transferred to Saint Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, IN, in 1994. Sister was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.
