Sister M. Anna (Anna Wanda Black), CSC, 88, was born in Morris, IL, to the late Frank and Catherine Ryan Black. Sister Anna was one of 10 children and is survived by her sister, Sister M. Lorraine, CSC, a brother, August B. and Marie Black, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Black, Lisle IL. She is also survived by nieces, Shirley Boero, Alice Mac Shuler, Therese Lamb, Nadine Lemieux, Mary Maat, Wanda Russell, Linda Williams, Jean Burke and Sister Grace Watson, CSC; nephews, George, Frank, Donald, James, Edward, Michael, Richard, Jack, William, Thomas, Robert Black, Willis, Irvine, Tony, and Thomas Olson; and cousin, Patsy Palm.

Sister is pre-deceased by her siblings, Alice (Charles) Waters, Edward (Stella) Black, Marie (Anthony) Watson, Agnes (Edgar) Olson, John Black, George Black and Sister M. Antonella, CSC.

Sister Anna gained her education in Morris, IL, and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in February 1936. She was trained as an elementary teacher and taught for 32 years in schools in Indiana and Illinois. In 1956 she earned a bachelor of science degree, major in education, and in 1967 her master’s degree. Her teaching broadened to teaching music in the classroom, glee club, choral and voice at St. Paul’s, Danville. She moved from schools to parish visiting and ministering to the elderly and was sacristan at Sacred Heart Church, now the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. As her health needs grew, Sister returned to the Convent at Saint Mary’s and was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.
