Lynn Kaney passed peacefully into Heaven on April 2, 2014, at the age of 85. Lynn Marie Boots and her precious surviving sister, Carolynn Boots Stott grew up in Oelwein, Iowa, but have been fortunate to call Freeport home for most of their adult lives. In addition, Lynn and her husband Floyd enjoyed many years of friendships and community involvement in their home-away-from-home, Carefree, Arizona.

Lynn was born with a gift for music. She had perfect pitch and could play anything by ear on the piano. A summa cum laude graduate of Cornell College, Iowa, with a degree in piano performance, Lynn continued to perform and develop her talent throughout her lifetime. Her twenty-year dedication to teaching inspired many of her students and led her to frequent opportunities for involvement in the community. Lynn was a passionate teacher, a composer, and an accompanist. She thoroughly enjoyed her involvement with Winneshiek Theatre for many years as both actress and musician. Her friends and family were blessed by Lynn’s gifts as a writer of wonderful letters, journals, and poetry. Lynn also found joy in creating a beautiful home and entertaining friends and family.

While a freshman at Cornell College, Lynn met and fell in love with her soulmate, Floyd Kaney. Together they shared a passion for music, theatre, art, and travel. During 60 years of marriage, they enjoyed friendships wherever they ventured and mentored young musicians, who always found the Kaney’s home open to them.

Lynn was united after death with her beloved husband and is survived by her daughter Carole Kaney-Francis and son-in-law Jim Francis (Dallas, TX), twin sons Steve Kaney (Phoenix, AZ) and Charlie Kaney, and daughter-in-law Rita Hathaway (Minneapolis, MN). She was adored by her six grandchildren, Meghan and Ellen Kaney-Francis, Michael Kaney, Alexandra, Nate, and Luke Kaney. In addition, she is survived by two great-granddaughters and beloved nieces and nephews.
