Lynn A. Woodcock passed away on June 15, 2022, after a brief illness at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Lynn was born in Homer Township at the family home on Woodcock Rd., February 7, 1926, to his parents Wilbur and Mary Ellen (Neale) Woodcock.
The Woodcocks are a “First Family” of Midland County dating back to 1858. He was preceded in death by several siblings: Donald Woodcock; Iris Fosgitt (Llyle); Ellen Woodcock; Beatrice Sears (Ronald); Bonnie Chamberlin (Dudley); and Larry Woodcock. Lynn is survived by a sister, Monica Doan (Jack) of Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law, Ronald Sears of Baton Rouge LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lynn attended the one room Bailey School in Midland (which as an adult he was able to buy as part of his farm on Sasse Rd.) He graduated from Midland Senior High School in 1944. That July, Lynn started his tour of duty for the Army Air Corp where he served as a cryptographer at Clark Field in the Philippines. Lynn reached the rank of Sargent. After Lynn’s service, he attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Lynn enjoyed his time at U of M and became a life member of the Michigan Alumni Club. Lynn worked the majority of his career as a staff pharmacist at Glover’s Rexall Drug Store. He became an active member in several Pharmaceutical Associations.
His other career was as a farmer. After selling his farm on Sasse Rd in 1968, he actively managed his “Riverwood Farm” on Gordonville Rd. Lynn raised Registered Shetland Ponies, Registered Morgan Horses, several breeds of sheep for their wool, chickens and even a goat and donkey. Lynn also had a fondness for Dalmatian dogs. Lynn competed with his animals around the state and won many awards. For 2 years running, Lynn won the Michigan Supreme Breeder of black sheep. Many nieces, nephews and younger acquaintances were lucky enough to show his animals. Lynn was an active member of the Midland County Fair Board for several years. Lynn enjoyed reading, march music and photography. A visit to the Kodak-Eastman Headquarters helped to ignite his enjoyment of said photography. Lynn was also fascinated by Britain’s Royalty. His knowledge was so extensive that it was quicker to call him with a question than to use the internet. Later in life, Lynn enjoyed keeping up with friends and family with phone calls and letters. He was a wealth of knowledge.
Lynn was an active and vital member of his community, family and friends. He will be missed greatly.
