Annie Lynette Whitten Woods, 96, of East Ridge, went into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, September 9, 2016 at home with her daughters by her side.

Lynette was the youngest child of Milton Milburn Whitten and Della Victoria Martin Whitten.  She was the first baby born in Chattanooga, January 1, 1920.  She lived her entire life in Chattanooga and graduated from City High School in 1938.

She was originally a member of the Mission Ridge Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and currently a member of Brainerd East Ridge Chapter.   She served in many stations including Worthy Matron.  She was a member of the Women in Construction (WIC) and previously served as president.

She played bridge at Eastgate Senior Center for many years and loved getting together with family and friends to play bridge.  

She retired form W.H. Camp Painting Contractors in 2000.  She stopped working fulltime at age 65 and retired completely at age 80.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband:  Ernest (Pop) Woods;  brother:  Milton Martin Whitten;  sister:  Madge Marie Dillard and sons-in-law:  Morris L. Carden and A.E. (Gene) Luke.

Survivors include daughters:  Judith Marie Carden, Newport News, VA  and Carolyn W. Luke, East Ridge;   grandchildren:  James Lamar (Melody) Carden;  Hampton, VA;  Richard Eugene Carden, Newport News, VA;  Cheryl Lockett, Nebraska;  Ed (Tracey) Luke , Joelton, TN;  Ron Luke, Chattanooga;  Donna Luke, Springfield, TN, and Bren Luke, East Ridge;  Great-grandchildren:  Ericka Marie Carden, Front Royal, VA;  Gabriel Carden and Isabell Carden, Hampton, VA;  Amy (Art) Escobar and Sarah (Bryon) Coffey,  Lincoln, Nebraska;  Brian (Kayla) Luke, Goodletsville, TN;  Anna Luke, Springfield, TN;  Katie Luke, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Griffin Luke, East Ridge;  Great-Great Grandchildren:  Isaiah Escobar, Gabriel Escobar and Cruz Coffey, all of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Emorie Kate Luke, Goodlettsville, TN, and beloved nieces and nephews of the Woods family.
