Lyndell W. Cooper, 79, of Chapin, IL died Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

He was born February 28, 1937 in Lynnville, the son of John and Essie Roach Cooper.  He married Doris J. Griffin on June 5, 1960 in Chapin and she preceded him in death on February 24, 2009.

He is survived by four children, Sheree West (husband, David) of rural Jacksonville, Kendall Cooper of Chapin, Gary Cooper (wife, Becky) of South Jacksonville, and John Cooper (fiancé, Carrie Turner) of Chapin; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Loren Cooper (wife, Pat) of South Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Dorothy Eleanor Leffelman, Donald Cooper, and Maurice Cooper.

A 1955 graduate of Jacksonville High School, Lyndell served with the US Army from 1955-1958, stationed in Guam.   Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville for 37 years.  He was a member of the Starlite Campers Club at Lake Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
