Lynda (Walsh) Colburn-Killeen 1947-2021HorticulturistLynda Colburn died peacefully at home on March 31st after fighting an illness for more than a year. Born in Norwood, MA to Katherine (Greeley) Walsh and David I. Walsh, Lynda spent most of her childhood in St Albans, VT where she developed her lifelong passion for skiing, and skied with her children and grandchildren right up until the age of 70. As a teenager, her family relocated to Rockland, MA where she graduated from Rockland High School in 1964. She later earned a degree in Arboriculture and Park Management from the University of Massachusetts’ Stockbridge School of Agriculture and had a long career in horticulture. Lynda’s CV included work as a forest ranger at the DAR State forest in Goshen, MA, marking timber for Green Diamond Forestry Services in Belchertown MA, interior foliage maintenance throughout Manhattan, NY, and retail gardening on Cape Cod. Her passion and knowledge of horticulture were “second-to-none” and she won ribbons for her plant entries at the Tri-county fair in Northhampton, MA. Lynda spent the last 30 years residing in Venice, FL and then in Bourne, MA and she was fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Americas. Her free spirit touched people wherever she went, and she will be greatly missed. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her brother David Walsh and brother Robert Walsh, both formerly of Cape Cod, and her son Derek Colburn, formerly from Plymouth, MA. Lynda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Christine (Morrill) Colburn of Huntingtown, MD and their children Julia, Danielle and James, her son and daughter-in-law Marc and Lisa (Preston) Colburn from Plymouth, and their son Cameron. She is also survived by her brother Kevin Walsh of Chicopee, MA, brother Steven Walsh of Marstons Mills, her grandson Maya Sacks of Los Angelos, CA and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly.
