Lyle Larue Ayers Sr., of Clarksburg, passed peacefully at the VA Hospital on May 5, 2013 in his 88th year. He was born in Anmoore, WV on September 10, 1924; son of the late Harold James Ayers and Violet Pearl Hinkle Reppert. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Nancy Lou Golden Ayers; one son, Lyle L. Ayers Jr. and fiancé Jennifer Drake, of Tarboro, NC; three grandchildren, Scott Ayers; Sabrina Watson and fiancé Don Flint; Nick Polson; two great-grandchildren, Jesse H. Johnson III, Pamela Jean “PJ” Johnson; seven siblings, John Reppert and wife Randi; Jerry Ayers; Tonya LaBenne and husband Wayne; Hope Hill and husband Brad; Tom Ayers; Tamma Ayers; Nancy Wiseman and husband Paul; daughter-in-law, Beverly Ayers Sandy; nurse from Amedisys Hospice, Aaron Elliott; special caregiver, Mary Marg Pierson and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son, John Edward Ayers and brother, Edward Ayers. Lyle stayed with his grandparents, Martin Oscar and Emma Hinkle. He then moved to Ohio and stayed with his aunt and uncle, Harold and Mildred King where he completed High School. He was a veteran of the US Marines serving in the Battle of Okinawa, then guarded the Railroad in China, and the Japanese POW’S until they were sent back. Lyle spent 37 years working for Anchor Hocking. In his spare time Lyle enjoyed spending time at his camp on the Buckhannon River, playing golf at the Apple Valley Golf Course, and fishing. He was a member of the Bridgeport American Legion and the Simpson Creek Baptist Church.
