Lyle F. York, 76, Anderson, passed away October 31, 2010 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus-Anderson.

He was born January 9, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. At age 7, he moved with his family to Anderson where he has lived since. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1952 and went on to attain a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1956. After working for Bechtel Corporation for one year in San Francisco, he entered the military. He served two years in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Germany and was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Upon returning to Indiana, he entered the family business started by his father, York News Company, Inc. He became sole executive officer in 1968 and continued to grow the business eventually running the magazine and book distributorship; two bookstores, Anderson Newscenter and Readmore Books in Muncie; and a local restaurant supply and tobacco wholesaler, Anderson Supply Company. Throughout his professional life, Lyle served as director for the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, President for the National Council for Periodical Distributors of the Great Lakes, and on various roles with the Indiana Magazine Wholesales, Purdue Alumni Association, Phi Kappa Psi, Society of Automotive Engineers, Sports Car Club of America, and Indiana Civil Liberties Union. In life, Lyle had a continuing interest in autos, specifically in MG British sports cars. He raced in SCCA both MGs and other types of cars and competed in the US Road Racing championships in 1965 and 1966.

His passion for MGs led him to create the MGA Twin Cam Registry which evolved into an international organization under the MG Car Club, Ltd, of Great Britain for owners of these models. In addition to his hobbies of MGs and facing, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family including his granddaughter and three cats.

Lyle was a current member and former Deacon of 1st Presbyterian Church in Anderson He was survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Shrum York of Anderson; three children, Bill York of Anderson, Lara Brent McFerran of Atlanta, Andy York of Whitestown; one granddaughter, Elise McFerran; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Dorothy Wanless York; and two sisters, Beverly Suits and JoAnn Marks.
